#letsewthistogether May Theme: Summer Whites
Ready for summer? Loni and I are READY and we are getting our wardrobes ready to with May's #letssewthistogether theme. Summer Whites! And...we have a SPONSOR! So definitely read to the end of this post for some details.
What does this mean? It means that we are ready to sew fresh, breezy, bright, and white clothing for the summer. We are in luck because the shops are stocking up on the summer weight fabrics and the ready-to-wear inspiration is endless. Shall we look at some pretty pictures and online shop for fabric together? (We shall!)
I immediately thought of making a white Seawork Audrey jean jacket and it seems I'm right on trend. This beautiful white jacket from Nordstrom is the perfect inspiration and could be worn over everything. LA Finch Fabrics has two different white denims with a touch of stretch that would be perfect for a summer layering piece. (A friend told me the cupro blend denim has the softest touch and feels so good!) For a non-stretch denim, this white bull denim from Online Fabric Store would be a good choice.
Should we push our limits and try to make shorts in May? We should! I love the idea of some just-above-the-knee length twill shorts to wear with all of the floral tops I plan to make in June (spoiler alert--June's theme has been decided on as well. See Loni's schedule for that one). These white twill Bermuda shorts are absolutely the perfect inspiration. Perhaps some this white cotton twill or even possibly the lighter weight LA Finch denim. I own but haven't sewn the Alina Design Co. Chi Town Chinos pattern and this might be the month to finally give them a try. So many choices! So little sewing time!
Early summer can still mean layering up in the mornings and evenings so a white cable knit sweater would be a great thing to have on hand. Taking inspiration from this classic version from LL Bean (which is sold out in white anyway), I think the cable quited knit in snow from Blackbird fabrics is going to make an excellent handmade option. (Already ordered some of this fabric!) Maybe a slightly altered Seamwork Astoria? Stay tuned on this one!
My final inspiration is a classic white linen button up shirt. I've already cut out a sleeveless Cheyenne Tunic from some cotton-linen blend shirting that I purchased from Jo-Ann Fabrics. All I will need is some sun on my shoulders and my summer dreams will be realized!
Aaaaand one lucky participant this month will win a 6 yard case of knit fabric from everyone's favorite fabric store LA Finch Fabrics! Use the hashtag #letssewthistogether on Instagram to follow along and more information about the prize giveaway.
